"At some point in your life you must
decide whether you want to impress people or influence people.
You can impress people from a distance, but you must get close to influence
them, and when you do that, they will be able to see your flaws. That's
okay. The most essential quality for leadership is not perfection, but
credibility. People must be able to trust you, or they won't follow you."
-Rick Warren
An individual can
brag about what they have accomplished - how much they own, what kind of car
they drive, how much is in their bank account - and people will not
listen or learn from these kinds of successes.
The greatest accomplishments in life come from overcoming failure,
problems, or struggles, and people will listen and learn when you are
willing to open up and use your experiences as a teaching tool for others.
This is the basis for Peer Support Services, believing that
consumers not only help others become stronger while providing peer support, but
they also become stronger themselves!
The target population
for this service are adult and youth consumers who desire support from other
consumers. Priority is given to adults with severe mental disabilities or
youth with serious emotional disturbances. Support and encouragement are
provided through reassurance, information, referral and networking.
Peer Support Services are provided:
Face-to-face
Via Computer
Via Telephone
Through Community Outreach
Through Written Communication
